Paraguay coach Gustavo Alfaro backs Morocco as future World Cup winners
Paraguay head coach Gustavo Alfaro has tipped Morocco as strong contenders to win both the 2026 and 2030 FIFA World Cups, highlighting the remarkable progress of Moroccan football in recent years.
His comments come ahead of the international friendly between Paraguay national football team and Morocco, scheduled to take place in Lens as part of preparations for upcoming competitions.
Alfaro praised the steady rise of Moroccan football, noting that the national team’s development reflects a broader upward trajectory. He pointed to the consistency and quality displayed by the Atlas Lions as clear evidence of a team evolving into a global force.
“I see the Moroccan national team as a serious contender in this World Cup, not to mention the next edition,” he said.
The Paraguayan coach also highlighted Morocco’s recent achievements, including their historic semi-final run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, success at youth level, and their recent draw with Ecuador in Madrid.
According to Alfaro, these milestones represent “a beautiful mirror to look at,” underlining a model of growth and ambition that other nations can admire.
The two national teams will lock horns on Tuesday, March 21, in an international friendly match as part of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
