Senegal’s head coach, Pape Thiaw, remains resolute in his team’s pursuit of glory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite a tough group stage draw.

Speaking to Canal+ Afrique, Thiaw addressed the challenges his side will face, as they are set to compete against Botswana, DR Congo, and Benin in the opening round of the tournament.

“Our goal will always be to win the trophy,” Thiaw asserted, emphasizing Senegal’s ambition to secure a second continental title.

We have shown it, and when you are ranked second in Africa and 17th in the world, you must always aim for the Holy Grail in each competition.

While confident in his team’s abilities, Thiaw acknowledged the difficulties that lie ahead.

“It will not be easy at all. These are all teams that have proven themselves to be here,” he said, recognizing the growing strength of African football.

It is clear that there are no easy teams in Africa anymore.”

Despite the competitive nature of the tournament, Thiaw’s message was one of determination.

But we are Senegal, and we will do everything to be there,” he declared, underscoring the team’s resilience and commitment to advancing past the group stage.

Senegal, currently one of the continent’s top-ranked sides, enters the competition with high expectations, both domestically and internationally.

As they prepare to face Botswana, DR Congo, and Benin, the Lions of Teranga are focused on securing their place in the knockout rounds and ultimately contending for the coveted AFCON title.
