Senegal’s interim coach, Pape Thiaw, has provided clarity on the situation of right-back Noah Fadiga, who has been absent from the national team since 2023. Speaking at a press conference ahead of Senegal’s match against Burundi, Thiaw confirmed that discussions with the player have taken place, while emphasizing the priority of his health as he recovers from a medical condition requiring a defibrillator implant.
“I took the steps, we spoke. He is a Senegalese like any other,” Thiaw stated. “But for now, let him recover properly. Then, we will see how things go.”
Fadiga, who has delivered strong performances this season for Belgian side La Gantoise, remains a potential candidate for the Senegalese defense once he is fully fit.
The defender had previously been called up twice in 2023 under former coach Aliou Cissé but did not feature in any matches.
Despite his current absence, Thiaw hinted at the possibility of reintegrating him into the squad when the time is right.
The interim coach underscored the importance of prioritizing Fadiga’s well-being above footballing matters.
“First of all, I wish him a good recovery, because he is a ‘son.’ I shared unforgettable moments with his father, Khalilou Fadiga, in football, and we always stay in touch,” Thiaw added.
Doctors have assured that the procedure Fadiga is undergoing will not jeopardize his career, expressing confidence in his ability to return to the highest level of competition.
Thiaw’s comments highlight his commitment to supporting Fadiga through his recovery while keeping an open door for his return to the national team.
With Fadiga regarded as a strong option to strengthen Senegal’s right defensive flank, fans will be eager to see his eventual comeback.
For now, however, Pape Thiaw’s approach emphasizes patience and care, ensuring that Fadiga’s health and readiness take precedence over any immediate plans.
