Pape Thiaw addresses Sadio Mané’s absence from Senegal squad

NOUVEAU POUR SITE 91 1

Senegal will head into their June friendlies without one of their most prominent figures, Sadio Mané. The former Liverpool forward, who missed the 2022 World Cup due to injury, has once again been left out of the squad announced by coach Pape Thiaw ahead of matches against Ireland and England.

Mané’s omission marks a significant moment for the national team, given his influential role in recent years. Despite recently featuring in the Saudi Pro League final for Al-Nassr, where he completed the full match against Al-Fateh, the Senegalese star will not be joining the team for these international fixtures.

When questioned about Mané’s absence, Thiaw offered a measured response, emphasizing respect for the player’s personal choice. “It’s a personal decision that is up to him, and as a coach, I respect it,” Thiaw explained. “What matters to me is the team. I have called up players who are available, committed, and ready to proudly defend the country’s colors.”

This stance reflects Thiaw’s focus on maintaining team unity and readiness despite the absence of a key figure. The coach’s approach signals a clear message that the squad will move forward with those who demonstrate commitment and availability, underscoring the collective effort over individual circumstances.

Sadio Mané’s career with Senegal has been marked by significant achievements, including helping the team secure the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations title. His experience and leadership have been invaluable, but his current decision not to participate in these friendlies suggests a shift in his international involvement for now.

The upcoming matches against Ireland and England are seen as important tests for Senegal as they prepare for future competitive campaigns. With Mané absent, the spotlight will fall on other players to step up and fill the void left by the prolific forward.

Pape Thiaw’s selection reflects confidence in the broader squad depth and an opportunity for new talents to emerge on the international stage. By prioritizing availability and commitment, the coach aims to foster a motivated group ready to represent Senegal with pride.

As the national team looks ahead, Mané’s absence serves as a reminder of the evolving nature of international football squads, where transitions and personal decisions inevitably shape the path forward. Thiaw’s balanced and respectful handling of the situation sets a professional tone as Senegal moves toward these key fixtures.
