Colchester United ended a 17-year winless run at Prenton Park in emphatic fashion, with Owura Edwards capping off a 3-1 triumph over Tranmere Rovers in League Two.
Lyle Taylor set the tone early, putting the U’s ahead from the penalty spot in the ninth minute after Jack Payne was fouled in the box. The striker then doubled the lead before halftime, finishing off a well-worked move that saw Owura Edwards, Ellis Iandolo, and Teddy Bishop combine brilliantly down the left.
Tranmere responded after the break, as substitute Kristian Dennis pulled one back, finishing a cutback from Omari Patrick. The hosts pushed for an equalizer, but Colchester remained resolute and soon struck the decisive blow.
Edwards put the game to bed in the 65th minute, racing onto a lofted ball from Iandolo, outmaneuvering Lee O’Connor, and smashing a powerful effort into the far corner beyond McGee’s outstretched fingers.
With the win, Colchester climb to 13th in the standings ahead of a tough home fixture against League Two leaders Walsall next weekend.
