The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has received an overwhelming response in its search for a new head coach of the Black Stars, with more than 600 applications submitted following the dismissal of Otto Addo.

GFA President Kurt Okraku confirmed the development in an interview with 3Sports, revealing the scale of interest from both local and international candidates.

“We have received over 600 applications for the Black Stars job,” he said.

The coaching role became vacant after Addo was relieved of his duties on the back of disappointing performances, including back-to-back defeats against Austria and Germany during the March international break.

The volume of applications highlights the global appeal of the Black Stars position, while also reflecting the urgency with which the GFA is moving to stabilise the team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The association is expected to begin a thorough vetting process to trim down the list of candidates, with both domestic and foreign coaches under consideration.

Okraku indicated that a new appointment could be finalised within the next one to two weeks, as the federation looks to put a new technical direction in place ahead of upcoming fixtures.

The Black Stars will regroup in May for international friendlies against Mexico on May 22 and Wales on June 2 as part of preparations for the World Cup.

Ghana, set to make their fifth appearance at the global showpiece, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, with hopes of progressing beyond the group stage for the first time since their impressive run in 2010.
