Ousmane Dembele cut a frustrated figure after Paris Saint Germain’s 3–1 loss away to Rennes in the opening game of Ligue 1’s 22nd round.
Speaking to Ligue1+, the Ballon d’Or winner did not hide his anger and delivered a clear message to the dressing room about attitude and priorities.
“We need to show more desire,” Dembele said. “We have to play for PSG in order to win, because if we play individually, it won’t work and we won’t win the titles we want.”
He went on to remind his teammates of the collective spirit that underpinned last season: “Last season we put the club, the PSG badge, first before thinking about ourselves. We need to get back to that, especially in matches like this. It’s PSG that must come first, not individuals.”
Many observers interpreted his words as a thinly veiled criticism of Desire Doue, who was accused of overdoing things on the ball during the game.
The defeat has intensified scrutiny around PSG’s mentality and internal balance, with Dembele’s outburst highlighting growing concern over egos creeping into the squad at a decisive stage of the season.
