Zamalek coach Moataz Gamal has acknowledged the challenges posed by the club’s transfer ban but insisted his team remains focused ahead of their CAF Champions League clash with Zesco United.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Gamal said Zamalek is determined to secure victory against the Zambian side and in their upcoming fixture against South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs.
“Our aim is to win tomorrow’s game and the following Kaizer Chiefs match to qualify and top the group, which will make the path easier after the group stage,” he explained.
Gamal reflected on the team’s campaign so far, noting that a draw with Kaizer Chiefs earlier in the tournament slightly disrupted their momentum.
“Since the beginning, Zamalek has been playing for the top spot in the group. Despite that draw, we managed to lead the group, and our focus remains on maintaining that position,” he said.
On the impact of the transfer ban, the coach added: “Any registration ban affects a team, but we have top-level players. We are confident in our squad and their ability to deliver what is needed.”
Gamal also praised Zesco, saying he had studied their games and acknowledged their quality, while noting the Zambian side has experienced some bad luck.
“I hope the match will be technically strong for both teams,” he said.
He concluded by emphasizing the stakes of the game: “This match will largely decide who leads the group alongside Al-Masry and Kaizer Chiefs.”
