Ghana’s national football team faces a challenging path in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers, having been drawn into Group F alongside Angola, Sudan, and Niger. Black Stars coach Otto Addo remains cautiously optimistic about their chances.
Speaking to the Ghana Football Association, Addo underscored the difficulty of the group while expressing confidence in his team’s ability to secure qualification.
“We believe in ourselves to qualify from this group,” he stated. “But it will be difficult.”
Addo’s assessment of the group’s competitiveness is grounded in the recent performances of their opponents. Hi
ghlighting Angola’s prowess, he recalled their commendable showing at the 2023 AFCON, where they reached the quarter-finals before being narrowly defeated by Nigeria.
“To start with Angola, I think they have a very good team. They had a good AFCON 2023 where they were eliminated after losing 1-0 to Nigeria. They played really well that game, I watched it.
They are doing well at the moment, they are top of their group in the COSAFA Cup and qualify for the next round.
They drew against Cameroon in their last game. So they have a strong group and we cannot afford to rest on our laurels,” Addo cautioned.
Sudan, another formidable opponent, is currently led by former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah. Sudan has shown strong form in their World Cup 2026 qualifying campaign, where they lead their group ahead of Senegal.
This adds another layer of complexity to Ghana’s task. “It will be difficult, it will be close, but as I said, I firmly believe that we can succeed against them,” Addo remarked.
The Black Stars’ preparations for the qualifiers will need to be meticulous, given the competitive nature of their group. The team’s recent performances will be under scrutiny as they aim to overcome these hurdles.
Addo’s belief in his squad’s capability is a motivating factor, but the road to AFCON 2025 is fraught with challenges that demand focus and resilience.
The qualifiers are set to begin in September, giving the Black Stars a clear timeline to refine their strategies and bolster their squad.
Addo’s emphasis on the strengths of their opponents serves as a reminder of the high stakes involved.
Ghana’s football community will be watching closely, hopeful that the team can rise to the occasion and secure their place in the prestigious tournament.
As the countdown to the qualifiers continues, Ghana’s preparations will involve rigorous training and strategic planning.
The confidence expressed by Addo must translate into disciplined performances on the field.
The Black Stars’ quest for qualification is a testament to their enduring ambition and the resilience that has characterized their footballing journey.
In conclusion, Ghana’s draw in Group F presents a formidable challenge.
However, with Otto Addo’s leadership and the team’s collective resolve, there is optimism that the Black Stars can navigate this tough group and emerge successful in their pursuit of a spot in AFCON2025.
The journey ahead is demanding, but the spirit and determination of the Ghanaian team remain unwavering.
