Oswin Appollis, Gamphani Lungu headline six-man Orlando Pirates Player of the Month race

Oswin Appollis and Gamphani Lungu are among six Orlando Pirates players competing for the club’s August Player of the Month award after making strong contributions to the Buccaneers’ impressive start to the 2026/27 season.

Pirates have opened voting for the monthly accolade, with supporters invited to choose the player they believe stood out most during the opening weeks of the campaign.

The shortlist also includes goalkeeper Sipho Chaine, Tshepang Moremi, Lebone Seema and Thapelo Mokobodi, giving fans a wide range of performances to consider.

Appollis has been one of the attacking standouts, scoring twice during the early stages of the season while consistently creating opportunities for his teammates. His contribution has made him one of the leading contenders for the award.

Lungu makes instant impact

Gamphani Lungu has also emerged as a strong candidate following an impressive start to life at Pirates.

The forward has wasted little time making his mark since joining the club, registering three goals and an assist in six appearances. His goalscoring contribution has been particularly significant as Pirates have maintained their unbeaten start in the Betway Premiership.

Goalkeeper Sipho Chaine has provided another key foundation for the team. The shot-stopper recorded five clean sheets in his first seven appearances, underlining his importance to a Pirates side that has combined attacking quality with defensive solidity.

Tshepang Moremi has also enjoyed a productive opening to the campaign. He has scored twice and supplied an assist in four appearances, while creating nine chances for his teammates.

Seema, Mokobodi complete shortlist

At the other end of the pitch, Lebone Seema has impressed with his defensive displays and added a goal and an assist to his contribution.

Midfielder Thapelo Mokobodi completes the six-man shortlist after catching the eye in the middle of the park. He also opened his account for the club by scoring his first goal.

The competition comes at a time when Pirates have made a powerful start across domestic competitions.

Pirates eye more silverware

The Buccaneers have collected 10 points from their opening four Betway Premiership matches, putting them among the early pace-setters in the title race.

They have also secured another appearance in the MTN8 final after dismantling Sekhukhune United 4-0 on aggregate in the semi-finals.
