Galatasaray claimed a 3-1 victory over fierce rivals Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday, with Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen playing a pivotal role once again. Osimhen, on loan from Napoli, provided a crucial assist to help secure the win, marking his second consecutive match with a direct contribution to a goal.

The Nigerian international, who made an impressive debut for Galatasaray with an assist in their 4-0 win against Rizespor, continued his fine form by delivering another standout performance against Fenerbahce.

Osimhen’s moment of brilliance came in the 28th minute when he set up Belgian forward Dries Mertens for Galatasaray’s second goal.

The Nigerian forward received a lofted ball inside the box and expertly cushioned it with his chest into the path of Mertens.

The Belgian striker raced onto the ball and fired a shot past Fenerbahce’s goalkeeper, Dominik Livakovic, doubling Galatasaray’s lead.

This assist was another example of Osimhen’s versatility and vision, as he continues to seamlessly integrate into Galatasaray’s attacking setup.

The chemistry between Osimhen and Mertens has already become a highlight of Galatasaray’s play, with the two forwards combining to devastating effect in consecutive matches.

Galatasaray took control of the match early on, taking the lead in the 20th minute thanks to an own goal by Fenerbahce goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic.

The Croatian shot-stopper inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net, putting the hosts on the back foot.

With Osimhen’s assist shortly after, Galatasaray extended their advantage, going into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

The home side continued to push forward in the second half and were rewarded when Gabriel Sara added a third goal in the 60th minute, effectively putting the game out of reach for Fenerbahce.

Fenerbahce fought to get back into the match, and they were awarded a penalty just three minutes after Galatasaray’s third goal.

Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko calmly converted the spot-kick in the 63rd minute to reduce the deficit to 3-1.

However, Fenerbahce’s efforts to stage a comeback proved insufficient as Galatasaray’s defense held firm for the remainder of the match.

With this victory, Galatasaray have now won all six of their opening matches in the Turkish Super Lig, sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 18 points.

They have opened up a five-point gap over second-placed Fenerbahce, reinforcing their credentials as strong contenders for the league title this season.

Victor Osimhen’s impact since joining Galatasaray on loan has been immediate, and his ability to link up with teammates like Mertens will be crucial as the Turkish giants continue their push for domestic and European success.

The Nigerian forward’s form will undoubtedly be one to watch as the season progresses.
