Angola international Deivi Miguel Vieira ‘Gilberto’ is facing an uncertain future at Orlando Pirates amid the imminent arrival of Abdoulaye Mariko.

Orlando Pirates are keen on bolstering their squad for the new campaign following a trophyless run in the recently concluded season.

However, Gilberto, who joined the South African giants last summer could be shown the exit door, having struggled to hit grounds.

Gilberto was farmed out on loan to Petro de Luanda during the January transfer window following a difficult start to the 2024/25 football campaign. He made five appearances in his short spell with the Angolan outfit

The imminent acquisition of the 23-year-old Malian midfielder has sparked controversies about the future of the Angola international.

Per the reports in South Africa, Gilberto is one of the players expected to be released by Orlando Pirates. He will either leave on a permanent basis or on loan this summer.

Mariko is said to be the direct replacement for the Angola international and is likely to fill the available foreign slot.

The Malian midfielder is already in South Africa and his announcement is imminent. He’s expected to be part of the squad heading to Spain for preseason.
