Orlando Pirates are reportedly closing in on the signings of Baroka FC players Tshepo Mashiloane and Kabelo Kgositsile, with both players expected to join the club at the end of the season.
Their performances in the recent Nedbank Cup round of 16 clash at Orlando Stadium caught the attention of Pirates’ management, particularly Kgositsile, whose attacking contributions stood out despite Baroka’s 3-1 defeat.
Baroka’s rising stars on the move
Kgositsile, who was promoted to Baroka’s first team during the 2021/22 season when the club was still in the Betway Premiership, has since developed into a key figure.
Although he did not feature in his debut season due to Baroka’s relegation, the forward has accumulated 77 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals.
Mashiloane, wearing the number 4 shirt, followed him into the first team a season later, during the 2022/23 campaign in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The two players have formed a strong right-side partnership, with Kgositsile operating in an advanced role while Mashiloane provides defensive stability from right-back.
According to sources from Sportswire, the duo are expected to finalise their move to the Soweto giants once the current season concludes.
If the transfers go through, they will join a long list of players who have made the switch from Baroka to Pirates, following in the footsteps of Evidence Makgopa, Goodman Mosele, Collins Makgaka, Donald Mokondelela, Thabiso Kutumela, and Gift Motupa.
Uncertainty over Jose Riveiro’s future
While the potential arrivals of Mashiloane and Kgositsile could bolster Pirates’ squad depth, questions remain over who will be in charge of the team next season.
Head coach Jose Riveiro’s contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign, and speculation is mounting that he may opt not to renew his deal.
Since joining the club in June 2022, Riveiro has led Pirates to multiple domestic trophies, including three consecutive MTN8 titles.
However, reports suggest that personal factors, including time spent away from his family, could influence his decision to leave.
As Pirates continue to reinforce their squad for the future, the fate of their head coach remains uncertain.
Whether Riveiro stays or departs, the arrival of Mashiloane and Kgositsile could provide the team with fresh energy as they aim to compete at the highest level next season.
