Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng cites hard work for impressive run of form
Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng has lifted the lid on the secret behind his blistering form, revealing that relentless extra training has fueled his recent goal-scoring surge.
The South African international is enjoying a sensational run in front of goal, netting five times in just two matches.
He first delivered a stunning hat-trick in a commanding 6-0 demolition of TS Galaxy, before following it up with a clinical brace in a 5-0 rout of Golden Arrows.
Speaking after the emphatic victory, Mofokeng acknowledged the challenge posed by Arrows but highlighted how an early breakthrough shaped the contest.
“It was a very tough game. Playing Arrows is always tough, but we managed to get goals early—that’s why they opened up and then we got more,” he told SuperSport TV at the Orlando Stadium.
The young attacker emphasized the importance of early goals, especially against teams that sit deep defensively.
“We have to continue scoring more because other teams come with a low block. When we score early, it helps us because they open up.”
However, the standout revelation was his commitment behind the scenes. Mofokeng credited hours of deliberate practice, particularly working on spectacular finishes, as the driving force behind his recent performances.
“I’ve been practicing scoring wonder goals and tonight is the reward for those practices,” he said.
“When you want to score or try something, you must practice and it will turn out exactly how you anticipated it. So, one has to continue scoring and doing it many times over.”
Mofokeng’s sharpness could prove decisive in the title race, as Pirates continue their pursuit of Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the Betway Premiership standings. Sitting second and just two points adrift, the Buccaneers will be counting on their in-form star to maintain his scoring streak as the season reaches its stretch.
