Orlando Pirates’ Sihle Nduli returns to training ahead of MTN8 final

Orlando Pirates midfielder Sihle Nduli has resumed on-field training ahead of the MTN8 final, although head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou says the 30-year-old still needs several weeks before he can return to competitive action.

Nduli suffered a grade three ligament tear in his ankle following a horrific tackle by AmaZulu striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya. The injury was a significant setback for the experienced midfielder, both physically and psychologically, after he had only recently returned from a long-term absence.

He was initially expected to be sidelined for four months. However, Nduli has returned to the training pitch after one month and one week of rehabilitation.

The midfielder was seen taking part in an open training session, where he completed light running. He did not take shots or overexert himself as he continued his recovery under the guidance of the medical team.

“Sihle, we’re happy to see him back on the pitch, in the process of rehab, soon you will be able to see him,” Ouaddou said ahead of the MTN8 final.

“He needs a couple of weeks but the good news is step by step he is coming back to the pitch.”

Nduli’s return provides a positive update for Pirates, but he is not expected to be involved in the upcoming final after only recently beginning his gradual return to football activities.

Several other Pirates players were also observed taking part in full training. Evidence Makgopa, Thalente Mbatha, Mohau Nkota, Makhaleni Makhaula and Kabelo Dlamini were among those seen completing the session.

It remains unclear whether any of those players will be selected for the final this weekend.
