Orlando Pirates midfielder Sihle Nduli ruled out for four months

Orlando Pirates midfielder Sihle Nduli will miss the remainder of the year after suffering a Grade 3 ligament tear in his ankle during Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with AmaZulu.

The 30-year-old was forced to leave the field after receiving a heavy challenge in the midweek fixture at Kings Park Stadium. Following further assessment by the club’s medical team, Pirates confirmed that Nduli is expected to be sidelined for approximately four months.

The injury means Nduli will not feature again for the Buccaneers for the rest of the year, dealing a significant blow to the squad.

“Following a 1-1 draw against AmaZulu in midweek at the Kings Park Stadium, Orlando Pirates return to action this afternoon as they take on Chippa United at the same venue,” the club said.

“The Buccaneers will, however, head into the encounter without midfielder Sihle Nduli, who sustained a significant ankle injury during the clash against Usuthu.

“The 30-year-old was forced off during the match following a heavy challenge and, after further assessment by the Club’s medical team, has been ruled out for an extended period.

“Nduli is expected to be sidelined for approximately four months after suffering a Grade 3 ligament tear, effectively ruling him out of action for the remainder of the year.”

Pirates return to Kings Park Stadium for their meeting with Chippa United having been held to a draw by AmaZulu at the same venue in midweek.

Nduli’s absence is particularly disappointing for the player, who had only recently returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines because of a previous injury. His latest setback will now keep him out for another extended period.

The midfielder’s injury occurred during a match in which Pirates and AmaZulu shared the points, with the challenge leaving Nduli unable to continue. The subsequent medical examination confirmed the seriousness of the ankle problem and established the expected four-month recovery period.

Pirates therefore face Chippa United without Nduli as they begin preparations for life without the midfielder until later in the year. The club has not provided any further details about the injury beyond confirming the Grade 3 ligament tear and the approximate length of his absence.
