Orlando Pirates new head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has predicted a great future for the Soweto giants as he embarks on a new journey.
Ouaddou was recently named as the head coach for the South African outfit following the departure of Jose Riveiro at the end of the season. The Spanish tactician left Pirates to join Al Ahly in Egypt.
Speaking to the club’s TV channel, Ouaddou shared his excitement joining the Soweto giants while predicting a bright future ahead.
“If I told you how the Pirates noticed me, you would be very surprised. I was very surprised. People don’t know this, but I can tell you that Orlando Pirates have a great future,” said the new manager.
He also revealed that the board of directors had observed him several times before making their final decision.
“I can say the board saw me four or five times before making the decision. They don’t just pick someone randomly. There are many criteria. When you pass the first one, there’s a second. Once you pass the second, there’s a third. When you pass the third, there’s a fourth… the board knows exactly what it wants,” Ouaddou shared.
Orlando Pirates heads to Spain for an intensive preseason training tour. The Soweto giants will play four friendly matches before returning home.
