Orlando Pirates drop eye-catching 2026-27 kits as 90th anniversary countdown begins
As Orlando Pirates gear up for a historic 90th anniversary celebration in 2027, the Soweto giants have launched striking new home and away kits for the 2026-27 campaign in collaboration with Adidas.
The newly unveiled Vodacom-sponsored jerseys combine tradition with contemporary fashion, offering supporters a visual tribute to the club’s enduring legacy while embracing modern football culture.
From the intimidating granite-inspired home strip to a retro-styled away jersey built for both stadiums and city streets, the Buccaneers have once again leaned heavily into identity and symbolism.
Granite-inspired home kit reflects Pirates’ fighting spirit
The new home shirt remains rooted in the club’s traditional black colours but introduces a far more aggressive visual approach.
Adidas has incorporated large dark grey chevrons across the jersey, creating a bold geometric pattern that gives the strip a fierce and commanding appearance.

The design is said to draw inspiration from granite, symbolising strength, resilience and the unbreakable spirit associated with the club and its supporters.
Metallic gold detailing elevates the overall finish, with the Adidas performance logo, the famous skull-and-crossbones crest and the Vodacom sponsor branding all standing out prominently against the dark base.
Touches of red on the sleeve cuffs and collar add extra intensity to the design, creating sharp contrast without overpowering the jersey’s dominant black identity.
The home kit arrives at a significant moment for Pirates as they continue building toward the club’s milestone anniversary celebrations. It also reflects the ambition and stature of a side expected to remain among the leading forces in South African football.
Away jersey embraces retro fashion influence
While the home strip focuses on power and intensity, the away kit takes a completely different direction.
Adidas has produced a vintage-inspired design that merges football heritage with everyday streetwear aesthetics, celebrating Johannesburg’s vibrant culture and the lifestyle surrounding the game.

The jersey features an off-white cream base that immediately separates it from the darker tones traditionally associated with Pirates. Subtle diagonal pinstripes woven into the fabric add texture and depth, giving the shirt a premium feel.
One of the standout elements is the return of the classic Adidas Trefoil logo in gold, a nostalgic feature that reinforces the retro influence behind the design. The iconic three stripes along the shoulders also appear in matching gold.
The vintage theme is completed by a black polo-style collar and thick black sleeve cuffs, producing a timeless look designed to appeal beyond matchdays.
Unlike many modern football kits focused purely on performance wear, the Pirates away jersey intentionally crosses into fashion territory, making it suitable for casual everyday use while still retaining a strong football identity.
A statement ahead of a landmark year
The release of the new kits marks the beginning of what is expected to be an emotional build-up toward Orlando Pirates’ 90th anniversary in 2027.
By blending symbolism, nostalgia and contemporary style, Adidas and Pirates have delivered two distinct designs that speak to different sides of the club’s personality: one representing power and dominance on the pitch, the other reflecting the cultural heartbeat of its supporters off it.
