Orlando Pirates defender Sebelebele eyes perfect finish

Orlando Pirates defender Kamogelo Sebelebele has lifted the lid on a decisive agreement within the squad, revealing that the Buccaneers are fully committed to winning every remaining match of the Betway Premiership season as they attempt to disrupt Mamelodi Sundowns’ march to the title.

The right-back, who delivered a standout performance to earn Man of the Match honors in Pirates’ crucial 2-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC, made it clear that the team has adopted a no-margin-for-error mentality in the closing stages of the campaign.

Pirates currently sit second on the table with 62 points, trailing league leaders Sundowns by five points. With the title race entering its final stretch, the Soweto giants are holding onto hope that any slip from Sundowns—particularly in their clash against Kaizer Chiefs—could reopen the door and reduce the gap.

Speaking after the win at Athlone Stadium, where goals from Evidence Makgopa and Patrick Maswanganyi sealed all three points, Sebelebele emphasized the importance of consistency and unity within the squad.

“This game, we came here knowing it won’t be an easy one because we’re playing away,” he said. “But each and every game is important—each and every game is a final. We’ve decided as a team that in the remaining matches, we want to win them all.”

The defender acknowledged the challenge posed by Stellenbosch, a side known for its resilience, but stressed that Pirates’ strength lies in collective effort and depth.

“We know Stellenbosch is not an easy team, but as players we need everyone. Whoever gets a chance must step up so that we help each other win games. Without unity, we won’t succeed,” he added.

Sebelebele also highlighted the team’s unwavering focus during matches, noting that once he steps onto the pitch, distractions fade and the objective becomes clear—give everything until the final whistle.

“When I’m on the field, I don’t think about anything else. We work hard and only assess after the 90 minutes. Even if there are injuries, we trust that others will step in and help us recover.”

With momentum building and belief growing inside the camp, Pirates have thrown down the gauntlet in the title race. Whether Sundowns falter or not, the Buccaneers have made one thing certain—they intend to fight until the very end.
