Orlando Pirates defender Lebone Seema backed for future Bafana Bafana role
iDiski TV analyst Junior Khanye believes Orlando Pirates defender Lebone Seema has the potential to become a future Bafana Bafana international and captain.
Seema strengthened Khanye’s case by scoring in Orlando Pirates’ 3-0 victory over Chippa United in the Betway Premiership in Durban over the weekend. The result moved the defending champions to the top of the league table with seven points.
The 23-year-old’s goal was his second contribution for Orlando Pirates this season. He also provided an assist in the Buccaneers’ 2-0 victory over Milford FC in the opening league match earlier this month.
Seema is in his second season with the Orlando Pirates first team. During his first campaign, he scored twice in the league, and his latest attacking contribution has prompted Khanye to suggest that he could have a significant future both domestically and internationally.
The former Kaizer Chiefs winger believes Seema could develop into a leader for club and country. Khanye also outlined a possible Bafana Bafana defensive partnership involving Seema and Mbekezeli Mbokazi.
“Goal number two from a set-piece well done to Orlando Pirates a good player scored that one,” said Junior on iDiski TV.
“I can say a future Bafana Bafana player even captain. I’d love to see that boy paired with [Mbekezeli] Mbokazi at centre-back with [Khuliso] Mudau and [Aubrey] Modiba on the left-hand side.
“I’d love to see that and maybe give [Sipho] Chaine a chance in goals at Bafana with Tebza [Teboho Mokoena] playing in front of them just once. I’m sure there is something there.
“And I’m sure Pitso [Mosimane] is listening and will do that.”
Khanye’s comments came after a convincing performance from Orlando Pirates, who continued their strong start to the Betway Premiership season with victory against Chippa United.
Seema’s goal was scored from a set-piece and helped the champions maintain their position at the summit of the standings. It followed his assist in the opening-day win against Milford FC, giving him two goal contributions from the early stages of the campaign.
Khanye wants to see Seema tested at international level and believes he could eventually wear the Bafana Bafana captain’s armband. His suggested line-up would include Seema alongside Mbokazi in central defence, with Khuliso Mudau and Aubrey Modiba also involved, while Sipho Chaine would be given an opportunity in goal and Teboho Mokoena would play in front of them.
