Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has emerged as a strong candidate for the Zamalek coaching job amid the uncertain future of current trainer Jose Peseiro.
Zamalek are expected to meet Jose Peseiro this week to dis cuss his future following the club’s elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup. His future with the Egyptian powerhouse is currently in danger, and risk losing his job after the crucial meeting.
The Egyptian side, who are the defending champions of the Confederation Cup fell to South African side Stellenbosch in the quarterfinals. Zamalek held their opponent to a 0-0 draw in the first leg before succumbing to a 1-0 home defeat, confirming their elimination.
Zamalek board is scheduled to meet this week to discuss Peseiro’s future at the club. While the majority of the management team is reportedly leaning towards a change of coach, Mido, a member of the club’s planning committee, has expressed his desire for Peseiro to remain until the end of the season.
Meanwhile, the club has set sights on Spanish gaffer Jose Riveiro, who is currently the head coach of South African club Orlando Pirates. Riveiro is expected to end his trade with Pirates at the end of the season, ending his three year spell at the club.
His impressive performances with the South African side have caught the attention of Zamalek, and the club could look to bring him in at the end of the season.
With the season drawing to a close, Zamalek’s management will need to make swift decisions regarding their coaching situation.
