Head coach of Orlando Pirates Abdeslam Ouaddou has botched to confirm or deny the proposed departure of Mbekezeli Mbokazi to Major League Soccer outfit, Chicago Fire.

The 20-year-old South African defender has been linked with a move to Chicago Fire following a standout performance for Orlando Pirates.

Ouaddou, speaking after his outfit clash against Chippa United stressed he is not aware of the imminent departure of the defender.

“What I can tell you, I’m not aware about this news. For me, Mbokazi is still in my group. Today, like I just rotate the players. He’s one of the most important players in my group. For me, he’s still with me and that’s it. He’s still my player.”

Mbokazi’s departure to Chicago Fire in the MLS is in the offing as the player was said to be in USA last weekend to finalise the deal reportedly worth R50-million.

While Ouaddou remains in the dark about Mbokazi, an official statement from the club is being prepared.

The 20-year-old made his debut for the South African national team in June 2025 and has since appeared five time for the Bafana Bafana.
