Orel Mangala targeted by Bologna for Serie A move

Olympique Lyonnais is bracing for a crucial summer transfer window as the club continues grappling with serious financial troubles.

The Rhone-based side must sell players to reduce their salary bill, generate cash, and satisfy both DNCG and UEFA requirements. Several departures are expected in the coming weeks.

Belgian midfielder Orel Mangala is among the players likely to leave Lyon this summer. Despite being contracted until June 30, 2028, the 28-year-old won’t be retained if a satisfactory offer arrives. His departure would help OL shed a significant salary while earning a transfer fee.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Bologna has identified Mangala to strengthen their midfield. The Italian club finished eighth in Serie A this season and recently started a new cycle under new coach Domenico Tedesco, who previously managed Mangala with the Belgian national team. This connection could accelerate negotiations.

Mangala arrived at Lyon in January 2024 on a loan worth €11.7 million from Nottingham Forest, then was permanently signed for approximately €23.4 million. After a injury-disrupted season, the former Stuttgart player may soon seek a fresh challenge away from France.
