Orbit College still searching for first win after Highbury draw

Orbit College’s wait for a first victory in the Motsepe Foundation Championship continued as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Highbury FC at Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Thabang Sibanyoni scored twice for Orbit, but Highbury responded through a brace from Khethukuthula Ndlovu to earn a point for Vusimuzi Vilakazi’s side.

The result followed contrasting outcomes for the teams before the recently concluded FIFA break. Orbit, also known as the Mswenko boys, lost to Hope FC, while Highbury drew 0-0 with Gomora United.

Midlands return to winning ways

Midlands Wanderers ended a three-match winless run with a 1-0 victory over Venda Football Club at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.

The defeat extended Venda’s difficult start to the campaign, with the club remaining at the bottom of the table under Kaitano Tembo. Midlands moved up to 12th place.

The match was goalless at half-time before Kgotso Masangane broke the deadlock after the interval to secure maximum points for the home side.

Tuks claim second win

University of Pretoria recorded their second victory of the campaign by beating Leicesterford City 2-0 at Tuks Stadium.

Leandro de Sousa continued his strong scoring form by putting Michael Loftman’s side ahead before the break. University of Pretoria maintained their control after half-time and sealed the points when Ntando Nkosi found the net.

Late drama gives Gomora victory

Gomora United ended a two-match winless run with a 2-1 home win against Upington City on Sunday afternoon.

After a goalless first half, Gomora took the lead midway through the second period. Upington, known as Bafana Ba Gucci, responded in the final five minutes when Ryan Visagie cut inside and set up Palelo Mafuyeka to score.

The home side regained the advantage with a late goal in the closing minutes to claim victory.

Hope hold Lerumo

Lerumo Lions remain without a win after drawing 1-1 with Hope FC at Dobsonville Stadium in Friday’s action.

Mpilonhle Mazibuko gave Lerumo the lead just before half-time, but Hope, the new arrivals, fought back after the interval. Tauric Gamildien equalised with a simple tap-in for his second goal of the season.

Leaders Magesi held

Magesi FC and Northwest University played out a goalless draw at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

The result allowed Magesi, known as Dikwena Tsa Meetse, to preserve their unbeaten start and remain top of the table. Northwest University, who are pursuing their first win since being promoted, moved to 13th, three places above the bottom.

Hungry Lions end winning run

Hungry Lions beat Real Native FC 2-0 at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium on Saturday, ending their opponents’ three-match winning streak.

Real Native, formerly known as Casric Stars, missed the opportunity to draw level on points with leaders Magesi FC. Hungry Lions extended their unbeaten run to three matches and consolidated sixth place, five points behind top spot.
