Onuche Ogbelu completes move from ES Tunis to Libyan giants Al Ittihad SC

Nigerian midfielder Onuche Ogbelu has completed a permanent transfer from Tunisian giants Espérance Sportive de Tunis to Libyan side Al Ittihad SC, bringing an end to his spell with one of Africa’s most successful clubs.

The 23-year-old leaves Tunisia after establishing himself as an important figure in Espérance’s midfield, featuring in domestic and continental competitions during his time with the club.

Ogbelu joined Espérance from Nigerian side Nasarawa United in 2023 and went on to make 54 league appearances for the Tunisian powerhouse, scoring two goals.

His performances also earned him recognition at international level, having represented Nigeria at the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, where the Flying Eagles finished third.

The defensive midfielder now begins a new chapter with Al Ittihad SC, one of Libya’s leading clubs, as the Tripoli-based side continues to strengthen its squad with ambitions of competing for domestic honours and making an impact on the continental stage.

Ogbelu’s move is expected to provide Al Ittihad with added steel and composure in midfield, with the Nigerian bringing experience gained from competing at the highest level of North African club football.

The transfer marks another step in the career progression of a player who has moved steadily through Nigeria’s domestic football system before making his mark abroad.

Ogbelu will now look to make an immediate impact in Libya as he starts his new challenge with Al Ittihad.
