Omonia Nicosia open talks to sign Cameroonian defender Patrick Bahanack

Omonia Nicosia have entered negotiations to secure the services of Cameroonian centre-back Patrick Bahanack as they look to bolster their defensive options ahead of the new campaign.

Following a consistent season at Ethnikos Achnas in the Cypriot Super League, Bahanack has emerged as a key transfer target for the Nicosia-based club.

The 27-year-old caught the eye with a string of solid performances last term, appearing 31 times across all competitions and registering a single assist.

Omonia have reportedly tabled an opening bid of €400,000 for the defender, coupled with a proposed two-year contract. While the player is believed to be open to the move, Ethnikos Achnas are said to be holding out for a higher fee, seeking closer to €500,000 before agreeing to part ways with one of their standout performers.

The Cameroon-born defender has seen his profile rise steadily since arriving in Cyprus, and his current market value is estimated at €350,000, according to Transfermarkt.

However, given his recent form and importance to Ethnikos Achnas’ defensive setup, the club appears unwilling to let him leave without a deal they deem satisfactory.

Omonia’s interest is part of a broader strategy to reinforce their squad ahead of the upcoming domestic season and European commitments. Bahanack’s experience in the league and familiarity with Cypriot football are factors believed to have played a major role in Omonia’s pursuit of the player.

Talks between the two clubs are ongoing, with negotiations expected to continue in the coming days. While no agreement has been finalised yet, sources close to the deal suggest that both parties are hopeful of reaching a compromise.

Should the transfer materialise, it would mark a step forward in Bahanack’s career, offering him the opportunity to play for one of Cyprus’ most historic clubs and to feature regularly in high-stakes matches both domestically and on the European stage.

For now, Omonia await a response to their offer as they seek to complete what would be a notable addition to their defensive ranks.
