Omonia Nicosia are in active negotiations to sign Cameroonian defender Patrick Bahanack following his standout season with Ethnikos Achnas in the Cypriot First Division.
The 28-year-old’s consistent performances at the heart of Ethnikos’ defence have caught the attention of several clubs, with Omonia moving swiftly to position themselves as frontrunners for his signature.
Bahanack, who featured in 30 league matches last season, has become a pivotal figure for Ethnikos, showcasing defensive solidity and leadership at the back.
His contributions have not gone unnoticed, prompting Omonia Nicosia to make a formal approach in their bid to bolster their defensive ranks ahead of the new campaign.
Negotiations between the two clubs are well underway, though Ethnikos Achnas are reluctant to part with one of their key players without securing a suitable financial return.
Ethnikos have placed a €500,000 valuation on Bahanack, a figure Omonia has yet to meet.
The Nicosia-based club has tabled an initial offer of approximately €400,000, coupled with a proposed two-year contract for the player.
With Bahanack’s current contract running until May 2026, Ethnikos maintain a strong negotiating position but are aware of the player’s growing desire to make a step up in his career.
Omonia, meanwhile, are confident that a compromise can be reached as discussions intensify.
Despite the gap in valuation, there is optimism that the deal will materialise in the coming days.
Both parties are said to be keen on finding an agreement that satisfies all sides.
For Bahanack, a move to Omonia would represent a significant progression, offering him the opportunity to compete for titles and potentially feature in European competitions.
According to Transfermarkt, Bahanack’s market value is currently estimated at €350,000.
However, Ethnikos’ asking price reflects the premium placed on his importance to the team and the scarcity of quality defenders available in the Cypriot market.
Omonia Nicosia, known for their ambition and desire to reclaim domestic supremacy, see Bahanack as a key piece in fortifying their defensive setup.
Should the transfer be finalised, Bahanack will become one of the club’s marquee defensive signings for the upcoming season, bringing with him not only experience but also the physical presence that Omonia have been seeking.
With negotiations entering a crucial phase, an official announcement could be imminent, pending final agreements on transfer fee and contract terms.
