Omar Rekik: Slavia Praha eye move for Tunisia defender from NK Maribor

Tunisia international Omar Rekik, currently at Slovenian side NK Maribor, is being linked with a move to Czech club Slavia Praha as the summer market gathers pace.

Rekik, 24, is under contract with Maribor until 30 June 2027 but his performances have drawn attention, with Slavia understood to be exploring a deal while the defender’s market value stands at around €500,000. Any agreement would require Maribor to sanction the sale of a player they signed in January 2025 after a short spell without a club.

The centre-back has impressed on the biggest stage this year, featuring in two of Tunisia’s three matches at the 2026 World Cup and scoring once, contributing to half of his side’s goals at the tournament. That exposure has come after a period of stability in Slovenia, where he established himself following a series of loan moves earlier in his career.

Born in Den Haag and holding both Tunisian and Dutch nationality, Rekik has spent time in several major European systems, including spells in the youth ranks at Feyenoord, Manchester City, PSV and Marseille before winning the German Under-19 Bundesliga title with Hertha BSC’s U19s in 2017-18. A move to Slavia would mark a return to central Europe following earlier loans at Sparta Praha and Wigan, as he looks to convert strong international form into a step up at club level.

For now, Rekik remains a Maribor player with a year left after this season on his deal, leaving the Slovenian club in a strong position should Slavia choose to test their resolve.
