Omar Marmoush’s injury cast a shadow over Egypt’s hard-fought goalless draw with Burkina Faso, leaving head coach Hossam Hassan both proud and pensive as his dream of leading the Pharaohs to the World Cup continues.
Hassan admitted the forward’s absence was deeply felt but praised his players for holding firm against a spirited Burkinabe side. “We were affected by Marmoush’s injury. I really wanted to achieve this dream,” he said.
Speaking after the clash, the coach revisited personal memories of Burkina Faso, where he lifted the Africa Cup of Nations trophy in 1998. He acknowledged the strength of the hosts, highlighting their mix of European-based stars and domestic talents, while applauding their fans for their passionate but respectful support.
Hassan stressed the importance of preserving Egypt’s five-point lead in Group A, noting missed chances and a disallowed goal that might have changed the outcome. Despite the setback, he lauded Mohamed Salah’s leadership and the collective resilience shown.
