Omar Marmoush sends message to Tottenham fans after Newcastle debut

Omar Marmoush thanked Tottenham supporters for their warm welcome after making his first appearance for the club in a 2-0 defeat by Newcastle in the second round of the English Premier League.

The Egypt international was named in the starting line-up only two days after completing his move to Tottenham from Manchester City. New manager Roberto De Zerbi handed Marmoush his debut from the beginning and kept him on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.

Writing on his personal Instagram account, Marmoush said: “It is special to make my first appearance in front of all of you.”

He added: “It was not the result we wanted, but there are positives to take and plenty to build on.”

Marmoush concluded his message by thanking the club’s supporters, saying: “Thank you for the warm welcome and support.”

The forward was immediately trusted with a starting role despite having had only two days to settle into his new surroundings. He completed the match at Newcastle, although he could not help Tottenham avoid a second-round defeat.

Newcastle scored twice without reply to claim victory and move on to four points, putting them third in the English Premier League table. Tottenham, meanwhile, remain without a point and sit at the bottom of the standings after the result.

Marmoush’s debut included several positive individual statistics despite Tottenham’s loss. He attempted three shots, with one of those efforts testing the Newcastle goal.

He also completed three successful dribbles from four attempts and created three key passes for his team-mates. His passing display was particularly efficient: Marmoush attempted 17 passes and completed all of them, giving him a 100% passing accuracy rate.

The Egyptian lost possession five times during the game, but remained on the field for the entire contest as Tottenham looked for a way back into the match.

His arrival from Manchester City had made him one of the main talking points before kick-off, and De Zerbi’s decision to select him immediately underlined the manager’s willingness to use the new signing from the outset.

Although the opening result was disappointing for Tottenham, Marmoush’s message focused on the potential for improvement rather than the defeat itself. The forward highlighted the positives from his first outing and indicated that there was still plenty for the team to develop as the season continues.
