Omar Marmoush scores twice as Manchester City beat Atletico de Madrid in South Korea

Omar Marmoush scored twice in the second half as Manchester City came from behind to beat Atletico de Madrid 3-1 in a pre-season friendly in South Korea.

The Egypt international started the match and made the decisive contribution after the break, scoring twice in the space of two minutes to turn the game in City’s favour.

Atletico de Madrid had taken the lead shortly before half-time through 16-year-old Jorge Dominguez. The Spanish side held that advantage until the 57th minute, when Marmoush levelled for Manchester City.

The forward struck again two minutes later to put his side ahead. Both goals followed the same pattern, with Marmoush converting crosses from Antoine Semenyo on each occasion.

Marmoush was withdrawn in the 78th minute, with Algerian defender Rayan Ait-Nouri coming on as his replacement. Ait-Nouri then added a third goal for City in the 90th minute to complete the scoring.

The fixture formed part of Manchester City’s preparations for the new season. Marmoush had only returned to training with the club a few days earlier after a period of rest following his involvement with Egypt at the World Cup.

He had featured as a substitute in City’s previous friendly against the Korean League Stars, but was selected in the starting line-up for the meeting with Atletico de Madrid.

His two-goal display provided an immediate impact on his return to the side, while City finished the match with a convincing victory despite falling behind in the opening half.

Manchester City will continue their preparations next Sunday when they face Arsenal in the FA Community Shield.
