Omar Marmoush hailed his performance after scoring twice to help Manchester City reach the Carabao Cup final with a 3-1 semifinal win over Newcastle on Wednesday.
The result secured a 5-1 aggregate victory, underlining City’s dominance and sending Pep Guardiola’s side through to another domestic cup final.
The Egypt international was delighted with his contribution and the team’s collective effort.
“We showed a very good mentality,” Marmoush said. “From the first minute, we were focused and together as a team. We showed our passion and determination, and we are very happy to reach the final.” Marmoush added that while his first goal came off a deflection, his movement and positioning were key to both finishes.
“The first goal was lucky, my touch wasn’t perfect, but the ball went in. I try to make the runs and be in the right place. I hoped for a hat-trick, but scoring two goals gives us confidence for the final.”
City’s early pressure paid off when Marmoush opened the scoring inside six minutes, with his shot deflecting off Newcastle defender Dan Burn.
He doubled the lead shortly after, heading in a close-range effort from Antoine Semenyo’s cross. Marmoush’s tally now stands at 12 goals for the season, five of which have come against Newcastle at the Etihad.
The home side added a third before halftime, with Semenyo again providing the assist, this time for Reijnders. Newcastle pulled one back shortly after the hour mark through substitute Anthony Elanga, who curled a fine shot past James Trafford, but City remained in control despite some late scares.
City’s history in the League Cup remains formidable, with eight titles, including four consecutive wins from 2018 to 2021. The final against Arsenal offers an opportunity to continue that dominance, while Arsenal chase their first League Cup triumph in 33 years.
