Omar Marmoush praised Manchester City’s focus and passion after they booked their place in the Carabao Cup final with a dominant 5-1 aggregate win over Newcastle United.
City built on their 2-0 first-leg success at St James’ Park by controlling the return leg at the Etihad, where Marmoush played a starring role.
The forward opened the scoring early with a deflected finish, then doubled his tally with a close-range header before halftime. Tijjani Reijnders added a third to put the tie beyond doubt, and although Anthony Elanga pulled one back for Newcastle, City were rarely troubled as they eased through.
Speaking to City Studios after the match, Marmoush highlighted the mindset behind the performance. “From the first minute of the game we were very focused,” he said.
“We showed our mentality and our passion to win the game. We’re very happy that we did that. It’s the best feeling to reach a final. We would like to reach every final we can reach.”
The Egyptian international now has 4 goals and 1 assist in 20 appearances for City this season, underlining his growing influence in Guardiola’s squad.
