Omar Marmoush future in limbo at Man City as clubs line up summer move for Egyptian forward
Manchester City are preparing for another significant squad reshuffle this summer, with Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush emerging as a potential departure amid growing interest from across Europe and internal reassessments under a new managerial era.
The transition period at the Etihad Stadium has already triggered discussions over player futures, and Marmoush is among those whose long-term role is under review.
Signed from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025 for around £59 million, the forward arrived with expectations of adding depth and dynamism to Pep Guardiola’s attacking options.
However, with Guardiola now having left and Enzo Maresca widely expected to take charge, the club’s tactical direction and squad structure are expected to shift. That recalibration has placed several attacking players under scrutiny, including Marmoush.
Limited minutes despite steady contribution
During the 2025 campaign, Marmoush registered 21 Premier League appearances, but only eight came as starts. In total, he ended the season with three goals and three assists, a modest return that reflected both adaptation challenges and fierce competition for places.
Despite his limited role, there is no indication that the player has actively pushed for an exit. Still, it is understood that at 27 years old, he is keen to secure a more consistent starting position as he approaches what are typically considered peak years for an attacking footballer.
The presence of a deep and evolving attacking unit at Manchester City, now including recent arrivals such as Antoine Semenyo, has further complicated his pathway to regular minutes.
Clubs on alert across Europe
Interest in Marmoush is already taking shape ahead of the summer window. Tottenham Hotspur previously made enquiries during their scouting of attacking reinforcements and continue to monitor his situation, valuing his versatility across the frontline.
Aston Villa are also tracking developments closely. Their qualification for the Champions League next season strengthens their appeal, offering a blend of elite European football and a clearer route to consistent starts, something Marmoush is believed to prioritise.
In Spain, Atlético Madrid have been linked with the forward as they assess potential replacements in case of changes to their own attacking structure, particularly amid uncertainty surrounding other high-profile forwards in La Liga.
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona have also been mentioned as a possible destination, adding further weight to the growing perception that Marmoush could become one of the more sought-after attacking options of the summer window.
City open to offers at the right price
Sources suggest City would be willing to consider proposals for Marmoush if a suitable offer is tabled. Importantly, the club’s valuation strategy would likely aim to recover most, if not all, of the fee invested in bringing him to the Premier League just over a year ago.
While not forcing an exit, City’s evolving squad model means no player outside the core structure is entirely guaranteed a long-term role. Marmoush’s situation is therefore viewed as fluid rather than fixed.
Decision time ahead of summer reshuffle
With a new managerial cycle approaching and competition intensifying in forward positions, Marmoush faces a pivotal period in his City career.
The coming weeks are expected to determine whether he remains part of the project or becomes one of the notable names to move on in what is shaping up to be a busy transfer window at the Etihad Stadium.
