Omar Marmoush has been fined £220 after his McLaren was found to be uninsured and had not been declared off the road in England.
The Egypt international and Tottenham forward was convicted by a court on 5 October. According to the Press Association (PA), he was ordered to pay the £220 fine, along with £100 in court costs and an £88 surcharge for the victims’ support fund.
The case was brought by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) after Marmoush failed to pay a fixed penalty issued in June.
Court documents show the original penalty was imposed on 17 June, when officials discovered that Marmoush’s McLaren 720S was not insured and had not been registered as being off the road, meaning it was not being used on public roads.
The car is estimated to be worth about £250,000.
The BBC reported that the offence concerned Marmoush’s “McLaren supercar”, which was uninsured and had not been declared off the road.
The DVLA attempted to contact Marmoush at an apartment in central Manchester, where he had been living before moving to London.
The case was dealt with under the single justice procedure. The process allows magistrates to decide certain criminal cases in private, without the need for a conventional court hearing.
Marmoush did not respond to, or provide a defence against, the documents sent to him by the DVLA.
The 26-year-old joined Tottenham from Manchester City on loan until the end of the season, with an obligation for the London club to complete a £60m permanent transfer.
He recently ended a spell without scoring for Egypt by netting twice against South Sudan in qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Marmoush was also used as a substitute by Tottenham in their 1-1 draw against Manchester United in the sixth round of the Premier League.
He is not the first Egypt international to face a driving-related punishment in Britain. Mohamed Salah, the current Trabzonspor player and Egypt captain, was previously banned from driving for six months after failing to identify the driver of his car when it was recorded exceeding the speed limit in the UK.
