Omar Marmoush, the Egyptian national team player who plies his trade with Eintracht Frankfurt in the German league, is at risk of being sidelined just 24 hours before the clash against the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Africa Cup of Nations.
According to the official website of the Egyptian Football Association, Omar Marmoush suffered from a cold that prevented him from appearing at the press conference alongside the Portuguese coach, Rui Vitoria.
The national team is gearing up to face the Democratic Republic of Congo at 10 PM Sunday, in San Pedro, Côte d’Ivoire.
Egypt has faced the Democratic Republic of Congo in 12 previous encounters, including 8 official matches and 4 friendlies.
The Pharaohs won 8 matches, lost one, and drew 3 matches before their anticipated meeting in the current edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire 2023.
In their last encounter during the group stage of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations at Cairo Stadium, Egypt emerged victorious with a 2-0 score, with goals from Ahmed Elmohamady and Mohamed Salah.
Marmoush’s potential exclusion due to injury adds a layer of challenge for the Pharaohs as they aim to progress further in the ongoing continental tournament.
The team, under coach Rui Vitoria, is expected to make strategic adjustments to compensate for Marmoush’s absence in the upcoming crucial fixture against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
