Omar Marmoush dreams big with Egypt and Manchester City
Omar Marmoush believes Egypt can go all the way at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, and even take the next World Cup by storm.
Preparing with the Pharaohs in a group alongside Zimbabwe, Angola and South Africa, the Manchester City forward spoke to his club’s official website about his ambitions for country and club.
Marmoush opened with a bold smile and declared: “We will win the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup.” He stressed that Egypt are not travelling just to participate, insisting they have the quality to win the title or at least go deep in the tournament.
He added that with Egypt’s talent and status in Africa, simply appearing at the World Cup is not enough; the goal is to go beyond the group stage and show their true level on the global stage.
The forward reflected on his long road through German football, the difficulty of leaving home young, and turning down an approach from Canada because he feels “100% Egyptian.” He described his winter move from Eintracht Frankfurt to Manchester City as the reward for years of hard work, even if breaking into Pep Guardiola’s star‑studded side has not been easy.
Marmoush admitted last season at City was tough, with injuries and results below the club’s usual standards, but noted that the team has started the new campaign strongly and rediscovered its familiar, convincing style.
Looking ahead with Egypt, he is eager to help secure an eighth continental crown alongside Mohamed Salah, speaking warmly about their relaxed relationship in camp and the pride Egyptians feel seeing two of their own starring in the Premier League’s top clubs.
