Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush ruled out of Manchester derby with knee injury

Omar Marmoush’s injury has come at the wrong time for Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola confirming the Egyptian forward will not be available for the League Cup clash with Huddersfield Town.

Manchester City face Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup Round of 32, and Guardiola explained his plans for a rotated side.

“We won’t play tomorrow with the same starting lineup we used in the last three matches, that’s for sure,” Guardiola told his club’s website.

He added, “I’ve said it many times before, we respect this tournament because we’ve won it four times, but the problem is getting there without injuries. We’re getting there with injuries, so it’s an opportunity for the academy players.”

Guardiola admitted that Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait Nouri and Omar Marmoush could have featured but all remain sidelined.

Marmoush has been nursing a knee injury since Egypt’s game against Burkina Faso earlier this month. The setback has already ruled him out of matches with Manchester United, Napoli and Arsenal.
