Omar Al-Somah returns to Syrian football after 15 years with Al-Wahda move

Al-Wahda have signed veteran striker Omar Al-Somah on a free transfer, bringing the Syrian forward back to his home league after 15 years away.

Al-Somah has agreed a two-year contract with the club, known as the Orange, which will run until the summer of 2028. The 37-year-old joins from Saudi Arabian club Al Hazem.

The move marks the latest chapter in a long career across Arab football for Al-Somah, who left the Syrian league in 2011. Since then, he has played for Al-Qadsiah in Kuwait, Al Ahli Saudi, Qatar’s Al-Arabi, and Saudi Arabian sides Al-Orobah and Al Hazem, as well as Moroccan club Wydad.

He also represented Syria internationally and is the sixth-highest scorer in the history of the national team, known as the Qasioun Eagles.

Titles have followed Al-Somah throughout his club career. He won 12 trophies with Al-Qadsiah, added four with Al Ahli Saudi and claimed one with Al-Arabi.

The striker has also finished as the Saudi league’s top scorer three times and was the leading scorer in the Kuwaiti league once.

Across his club career, Al-Somah has scored 380 goals in 512 appearances. He is also the all-time leading scorer in the Saudi Professional League.

His return to Al-Wahda brings his professional career in the Arab world back to Syria, 15 years after he left the country’s domestic competition.
