Olympique de Marseille can consider itself fortunate to have signed Giannelli Imbula. The highly promising midfielder, named the best player in Ligue 2 last season, joined Marseille for a fee of 7.5 million euros. Imbula was sought after by clubs like Chelsea, AS Monaco, and even PSG, but he ultimately chose to move to Marseille.
Vincent Labrune, the president of Marseille, discussed the Giannelli Imbula transfer in an interview with France Football, stating, “We buy talent with the prospect of a strong added value. Imbula, for example, was not a small file. We paid 7 million for him excluding bonuses, while Chelsea, Monaco, Paris were ready to pay almost double. We wouldn’t have been able to have it if the player hadn’t been willing to join us.”
