OM’s Troubling Start to 2015 Continues with Loss to Nice
Olympique Marseille (OM) has suffered another setback in their 2015 campaign, losing 2-1 to Nice in a match that further complicates their position in Ligue 1. This defeat means that Lyon, currently leading with 45 points, could extend their lead, while PSG, with a game in hand, has the chance to close the gap on OM, who now sit second with 44 points.
Nice’s Strong Performance
The match saw Nice take the lead with goals from R in the 47th minute and N. Hult in the 73rd minute. OM managed to pull one back through Florian Thauvin in the 77th minute, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback. Despite the loss, Marseille coach Marcelo Bielsa remained composed, praising the opponent’s resilience despite playing with a man down for 35 minutes.
Bielsa’s Analysis: “We Did Enough to Win”
In his post-match comments, Bielsa maintained his belief in his team’s performance, stating, “We did enough to win the match, and we should have scored more goals. The team’s intentions were good, and their game plan was also good.” He acknowledged Nice’s mentality and praised their determination to attack even when down a player. “I give a lot of credit to the opponent’s mentality,” Bielsa added.
Despite the loss, Bielsa seemed to focus on the positive aspects of OM’s performance, saying that his side created ten goal-scoring opportunities compared to Nice’s four, with two of those coming from set pieces. “Against Montpellier, the shortcomings in their play were obvious, and in that match I don’t think we deserved to lose. Today, I saw my team create ten goal-scoring opportunities,” Bielsa remarked, perhaps not considering that the final scoreline told a different story.
