Nicolas Nkoulou’s Marseille Future Uncertain Amid Transfer Speculation
Nicolas Nkoulou, long linked with a move away from Olympique de Marseille, may yet remain at the club beyond this summer’s transfer window, according to recent reports.
French newspaper Le Parisien revealed on Monday that despite earlier rumours linking the Cameroonian defender with Arsenal and Napoli, Nkoulou himself is not currently focused on leaving Marseille. A close friend of the player told the publication that Nkoulou’s mindset has been affected by a difficult period, including a disappointing World Cup campaign followed by the loss of his father.
This personal backdrop, combined with uncertainty over his role at OM, suggests the defender may spend more time in Ligue 1 than initially anticipated. Marseille’s president Vincent Labrune has reportedly hoped to generate funds from Nkoulou’s sale, but whether the club will push for a transfer remains unclear.
Nkoulou, when questioned about his future, remained guarded: “I avoid talking about leaving, it’s not the right time,” he said. “Am I happy at OM? We’re not first, second, or third so things could be better, but it’s not mourning, total sadness.”
The 23-year-old has been a key figure in Marseille’s defence since his arrival, but his form and focus have come under scrutiny in recent months. As the transfer window progresses, the Cameroonian’s next move will be closely watched by both supporters and prospective suitors.
