Batshuayi Frustrated with Limited Minutes at Marseille: “I’m Not Taking My Situation Too Well”
Despite impressing during Olympique de Marseille’s preseason, Michy Batshuayi is finding it difficult to break into Marcelo Bielsa’s starting eleven this season. The Belgian striker, who joined Marseille with high expectations, has had to settle for a minor role—appearing only five times off the bench in nine Ligue 1 matches, largely due to André-Pierre Gignac’s red-hot form.
Speaking after a friendly match against Arles-Avignon, in which he got valuable minutes, Batshuayi didn’t hide his disappointment.
“When you don’t play much with the club, friendly matches like this feel good,” he told the OM official website. “Especially to have fun and not lose your bearings. I’m not taking my situation too well. I’m young, I’m in the best club in France, and we’re first. I train and I always try to give my all. Every time the coach calls on me, I’ll try to be at 100%.”
While his patience is being tested, Batshuayi remains committed and determined to seize any opportunity to prove his worth. With a long season ahead, the talented Belgian-Congolese forward may yet get the breakthrough he’s waiting for.
