Mario Lemina Set to Miss Start of Ligue 1 After Injury Blow
Marseille midfielder Mario Lemina will be sidelined for at least two weeks after sustaining an injury during a warm-up friendly against Bari that ended in a 1-1 draw. The Franco-Gabonese player, who joined Marseille from Lorient, is now expected to miss the start of the Ligue 1 season, which kicks off on August 8th.
Lemina had been eager to impress Marseille’s coaching staff ahead of the new campaign, expressing his determination to contribute both defensively and offensively. “I wanted to show the coach that I could hold the fort on the right side. He told me to play a lot on the wing, to contribute offensively,” he said prior to the injury.
The setback, however, forces the 21-year-old to put those ambitions on hold. Lemina took to social media to share his frustration but remained hopeful about his recovery. “A tough injury to take, at least 2 weeks without playing… I hope to be back as soon as possible,” he tweeted.
Marseille will now have to adjust their plans for the opening matches without the promising midfielder, who had been expected to play a key role this season.
