Edouard Mendy, the Senegalese international and product of Olympique de Marseille’s youth academy, has openly criticized his former club while firmly ruling out any return. In an interview with Senegalese website Wiwsport, the Stade Rennais goalkeeper explained that choosing Rennes over Marseille was an easy decision, citing the limited budget at OM as a major factor.
“The Rennes project was the one that interested me the most. In addition, Marseille did not have the necessary budget to recruit a goalkeeper. In any case, my choice had already been made, and I admit that I do not regret it,” Mendy stated.
Despite Rennes experiencing a recent run of ten winless games across all competitions, Mendy’s performances highlight that he is thriving at his current club. His comments underline both his satisfaction with Rennes and the financial constraints that have long hindered Marseille in the transfer market.
