Bielsa Confirms Improved Relations with Labrune as Diarra and Diaby Join Marseille
Olympique de Marseille is determined not to repeat the turbulence of the previous transfer window. After a tense summer marked by misunderstandings between club president Vincent Labrune and head coach Marcelo Bielsa, the two men appear to have found common ground.
In a press conference held this Thursday, Bielsa addressed the arrivals of Lassana Diarra (30) and Abou Diaby (29) — two experienced midfielders who had been without clubs prior to joining OM.
“Diarra and Diaby are the president’s initiatives,” Bielsa acknowledged. “You know the situation of both. I gave my agreement for the arrival of these two players.”
The Argentine manager, known for his meticulousness and intensity, also took a moment to praise Labrune’s role in the summer business, signaling a notable thaw in their previously strained relationship.
“I thank the president for the significant efforts he’s made during this transfer window,” Bielsa said, highlighting a new spirit of collaboration at the club.
With Diarra’s defensive solidity and Diaby’s box-to-box capabilities — provided he can maintain fitness — Bielsa hopes to add steel and experience to Marseille’s midfield, as the club aims to bounce back from an underwhelming campaign.
