Marseille President Vincent Labrune has declared that there will be no new signings for the club during the winter transfer window. Labrune cited financial constraints, stating that French football is facing a major financial crisis, with only PSG and Monaco having significant investment capabilities. Marseille had spent around €36 million in the summer to acquire players like Dimitri Payet, Florian Thauvin, Giannelli Imbula, Mario Lemina, and Saber Khalifa. Labrune also discussed the departure of coach Elie Baup, stating it was a difficult and painful decision.
