Modou Sougou is proving himself more than just a luxury substitute at Olympique de Marseille. The Senegalese player, who joined Marseille from the Romanian club CFR Cluj in January, made a significant impact in the team’s recent match and is now vying for a starting position in the upcoming clash against Olympique Lyonnais.
Despite arriving relatively quietly in January, Sougou showcased his importance in the last game against the league’s bottom team. In just two minutes, he delivered two crucial crosses to set up goals for N’Koulou and Gignac, contributing to Marseille’s narrow 2-1 victory.
Elie Baup, Marseille’s coach, mentioned that Sougou needed time to regain his sensations after a five-week break during the winter, but he has gradually returned to form and is now ready to start a match. With his impressive performance against Troyes, Sougou is a strong contender for a place in the starting lineup against Lyon-OM.
