André Ayew Confirms Departure from Marseille After Eleven Years
André Ayew will not be returning to Olympique de Marseille next season, bringing an end to an 11-year association with the Ligue 1 club. The Ghanaian striker bid an emotional farewell to Marseille fans on the final day of the French league season, with the club paying tribute to one of its most influential players.
Ayew revealed that the decision to part ways was reached by mutual consent following extensive discussions with Marseille president Vincent Labrune. The midfielder took to social media to express his deep gratitude and affection for the club and its supporters.
“There is no adjective strong enough to express my attachment and my love for Olympique de Marseille,” Ayew wrote. “More than a club, you are and always will be my family. You have seen me grow, evolve, improve and above all you have been able to grow in me this love and this common passion that we have for football. I want to thank you, Marseille supporters for all the support and love that you have given me during these 11 years. I will never forget you, you will remain forever etched in my heart.”
He added, “I have not prepared to say goodbye to you. It is with a heavy heart that I leave you and I hope to see you again one day. A page turns today but our story is not over, my heart and my soul remain with you because I am above all a child of the country. OM for life.”
While Ayew’s future remains uncertain, he has indicated a willingness to explore opportunities beyond France. Speaking to L’Équipe, the 26-year-old said: “I’m looking at all the parameters. I’m not even going to focus on the Champions League. It’s an important competition that every player wants to play in. But above all, it’s the time to discover another league, another country. I’m looking at all the offers, those from big clubs as well as less prestigious clubs.”
Ayew’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter for both player and club. Having developed through Marseille’s youth system, he grew into a key figure for OM, known for his pace, technical ability, and goal-scoring prowess.
Marseille will now face the challenge of filling the void left by the Ghanaian international as they prepare for the next campaign. Meanwhile, fans will watch closely to see where Ayew’s career takes him next.
