André Ayew Turns Down Lucrative Offer from Qatari Side Al-Jaish — For Now
Olympique de Marseille winger André Ayew was the subject of intense interest from Qatari club Al-Jaish toward the end of the summer transfer window. The club, which had already secured the services of OM’s Brazilian defender Lucas Mendes, reportedly engaged in concrete talks with Ayew regarding a long-term deal.
According to le10sport.com, Al-Jaish proposed a five-year contract with a net annual salary of €3.5 million, potentially rising to €5 million with bonuses. While Ayew did not immediately accept the offer, he reportedly left the door open for further negotiations. However, talks ultimately broke down and are now considered closed — for the time being.
OM had been open to offloading the Ghanaian international, whose contract expires in a year, at a reasonable price. But with no agreement in place between Ayew and Al-Jaish, no formal bid was ever submitted.
Interestingly, the Qatari transfer window remains open until September 22, meaning a late move could still materialize. That said, questions remain: is a move to the Gulf the right step for a 24-year-old in the prime of his career?
